Planning Commission authorizes court action to remove campers, clean up Kent property

The Jefferson County Planning Commission voted July 1 to authorize staff to pursue court action, coordinated with the County Commissioners, to remove campers and address junk and cleanup at a property owned or occupied by Arley Colvin at 8180 W. State Road 256 in Kent.

Planning staff reported that two houses on the adjacent properties burned in 2022, one lot has been sold and cleaned up, while the property where Colvin lives still contains trash and at least two campers. Staff said Colvin had been notified multiple times but had not attended recent meetings or responded to county outreach. After discussion, the commission approved a motion to begin court action rather than continue only administrative enforcement.

A staff member described the location and condition: “Arley Colvin’s place is 8180 West State Road 256 out in Kent… there was 2 houses there that burned… The property where he lives, he's driving a couple trailers in there… there's still some trash on the place, and he's in violation with the 2 campers being there.” Staff said county attempts to work with Colvin over time had yielded limited cooperation and that court action appeared necessary.

Commission members agreed to coordinate a combined enforcement action (zoning and junk‑abatement) with the commissioners rather than pursuing separate proceedings. The commission approved the action on a voice vote; staff said no roll call was required and the motion carried. The commission asked staff to proceed with court filing and coordination with the County Commissioners.
