Board approves three-year meals contract with Fry’s Commissary for senior congregate, home and shelf-stable meals

Center County commissioners on June 27 approved a contract with Fry’s Commissary Inc. to provide meals for the county’s aging programs, running from Oct. 1, 2025, through Sept. 30, 2028.
Quentin, a county aging department representative, said Fry’s will provide congregate meals at senior centers, in-home meals for homebound older residents and shelf-stable meals. Commissioners praised staff for soliciting multiple bids and noted Fry’s offered more menu options and a lower cost than the other bidders.
Why it matters: The aging meals program funds nutrition services for older residents, including site-based meals and home delivery for those who need them. One commissioner highlighted that Fry’s offers both regular and light meal options and can accommodate dietary needs through delivery selections.
Commissioners thanked Quentin and aging staff for the competitive procurement. The board moved, seconded and approved the contract by voice vote.
The contract period and service types were provided during the meeting; commissioners did not request additional changes on the record. Staff will proceed with contract execution and program planning ahead of the Oct. 1 start date.
