City staff told the council the project budget for printing, publishing and related costs was roughly $60,000–$65,000 and that the $25,000 approved at the meeting was for author payments only; printing was previously contracted by the council. "The total budget for the printing, publishing, and everything for the book was about $65,000," a staff member said. Council members confirmed that prior approvals covered printing and that the present motion was to compensate the authors.
Alderman Shaw moved to approve the payment; Alderman Doherty seconded. The council voted in favor. The motion carried.
Council members said they expect the book to break even once printing costs and author payments are recouped through sales. Staff did not provide a schedule for reimbursement from sales or a sales projection beyond the budget estimate.
