Moorestown schools wrap year with student showcases, Home & School grants and cafeteria food donations to local pantry

At the board’s public comment segment, teachers, student liaisons and Home & School representatives highlighted end-of-year events, student projects and community donations across the Moorestown district.

Student liaisons reflected on academic years and extracurricular highlights: a sophomore liaison recommended AP U.S. History as an important but challenging course; the junior liaison described college-planning work by juniors; and a senior liaison said he will graduate and encouraged students to “appreciate what little time we have left.”

Teachers and school representatives gave brief reports from across the district: field days, third-grade concerts and pen-pal programs, Unified Sports state medals, WAMS student volunteer projects and various grade-level celebrations were among the activities cited.

Home & School President Christina Milligan reported that Home & School contributed $150,000 to schools and programs this year, funding events and programs including author days, Art for the Sky, interactive floors, scholarships for graduating seniors (increased to $7,500 this year) and multiple staff-appreciation and student events.

Katie Berman, representing local food pantries, said the district coordinated donation pickups of leftover cafeteria food to the First Baptist Food Pantry, with scheduled pickups from individual schools over several days. Berman said the donations amounted to “hundreds of pounds” and that the pantry is appreciative of the district’s partnership.

Public commenters thanked district staff and volunteers and encouraged continued community involvement. The board acknowledged the contributions of retiring staff and volunteers during a lengthy recognition segment earlier in the meeting.

No board action was required for the reports and public-comments items; the comments were presented for the record and community visibility.
