Kelly Barnes, a staff member, asked the council to approve a family holiday gathering requested by Dominique James to be held at 111720 Fifth Street West on Friday, July 4 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Barnes said organizers had requested a partial blockage “on 20 Fifth Street West up to Eleventh Avenue South.”
Barnes also presented a request from 3 d Revolution for the third annual Turkey Trot “chase and recovery” 5K and 1-mile fun run on Thursday, Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving Day) from 8 to 11 a.m., with setup at 6 a.m. She said no street blockages had been requested for that run and that the organizer planned to use the Lee’s Jingle Bell Run route. “Police, fire, and street departments have given their approvals on both of these events,” Barnes said.
The transcript records departmental approvals but does not record a formal council vote on the permits during the meeting.
Event organizers and residents should coordinate with the city’s street, police and fire departments for final logistics and any permit conditions specified by those departments.
