Brett Carver, a staff member, told the council the revisions are “going to current use” and that “the use of the zoning is not changing, it's just updating the map.” He said the 56 parcels would be rezoned from municipal reserve to one of several classifications, including R-1 single-family, R-4 urban dwelling, B-2 community service commercial or agricultural zoning. Carver said the city has a total of 318 parcels to update and that after the current set there would be another group of 53 left to process.
The council did not vote on the measure; Carver said he would “put that ordinance for rezoning, introduce that ordinance today” and the mayor confirmed “this introduction, no action will be taken at this time.”
The update is intended to align the official zoning map with current land uses rather than change permitted uses on the properties. The council did not discuss any amendments or objections on the record at the introduction.
Next steps are to carry the introduced ordinance forward for formal consideration at a future meeting where a public hearing and any votes would occur.
