County approves temporary office trailer for sheriff; four‑month lease with extension option

At its July 1 meeting the Lawrence County Board of Commissioners approved a contract to lease a mobile office trailer from Dear John Inc. of Ellwood City to provide temporary office space for sheriff's deputies.
Joe (surname not specified), who presented the proposal, said deputies previously used a roughly 10‑by‑13 foot room in a building now occupied by the district attorney's detectives, but administrative changes required finding a new temporary location. The mobile unit selected contains two large offices and a centralized workspace for deputies to complete reports and occasionally process arrestees. The site for the trailer is behind Central Portage Park, the presenter said.
The county negotiated an initial four‑month lease with the vendor and included the ability to extend the arrangement as needed. "We originally have a 4 month agreement that can be extended for as long as what we need," Joe said. Commissioners discussed the short‑term nature of the lease and expressed support for the temporary measure while longer‑term courthouse space is identified.
The board approved resolution 151 by unanimous roll call to enter the contract with Dear John Inc. County staff said they will continue coordinating with the sheriff's office and the district attorney to ensure the temporary facility meets operational needs.
