Evesham board honors students and staff, approves routine administrative, curriculum, finance and personnel items

The Evesham Township School District Board of Education recognized students, staff and community contributors and approved multiple routine consent-agenda items during its meeting.

Board members presented a proclamation honoring Larry Cole and announced plans to rename the district’s Coordinated Arts Program for Primary Students (CAPS) in his honor. The board also recognized staff and dozens of students for awards ranging from county art and regional all‑star recognition to district math-league honors and varsity championships.

Superintendent Dr. Smith framed the night as a capstone to the school year, saying, “this final week of the 2024–25 school year is about celebrating all that has been accomplished since September.” She also reported that the district confirmed 33 hires — 32 certificated — from among 64 vacancies (62 certificated positions) in recent weeks, and thanked the board for support of an additional tax levy that made the hires possible.

On procedural business, the board carried a motion to approve minutes from the May 22, 2025 executive‑session meeting. The board then approved administrative items (board items 7.1–7.8), curriculum items (8.1, 8.5), finance items (9.1–9.27) and personnel items (10.1–10.11) by roll-call votes. Most votes were unanimous or carried; one abstention was recorded on a specific administrative subitem.

During public comment on agenda items, Joyce Lucie, a district bus driver, asked about a line that read “2425 substitutes” for bus drivers. A board member responded, “That should say the 2025–26 school year,” and the board agreed to correct the wording in published materials.

Recognitions highlighted at the meeting included: the proclamation to rename the CAPS program in honor of Larry Cole and presentations to Dr. Danielle Friedenthal (county-level leadership recognition), Isabelle Hurley (Burlington County Soil Conservation District poster grand champion), Eliana Uratia (Philadelphia-region all‑star student recognition), Carly Sapanski (Leroy Homer Jr. Memorial Award), district math-league top scorers across elementary and middle schools, winners of the New Jersey South 2025 Stock Market Game, and championship acknowledgements for middle‑school softball and boys lacrosse teams. Coaches and advisors accompanied many student recognitions. The board read the district mission at the start of the meeting: “The mission of Evesham Township School District is to promote excellence in an environment that engages students in meaningful learning experiences,” read board member Mr. Brown.

The meeting closed after a brief open comment period with a motion to adjourn that carried.
