Committee backs street-calming bill that would clear way for possible speed hump in Boulevard Heights

Alderman Schweitzer said a resident had requested traffic-calming and was in the process of collecting signatures on the required petition. She said past petitions conducted under a prior alderman were not on record and that she did not want the resident to wait through the city’s summer recess to pursue the measure.
“This is a resident who's reached out a few weeks ago about getting a, speed hump installed on his block, and they're filling out the petition forms as we speak,” Alderman Schweitzer said. She added that if signatures were not collected or block support did not materialize she intended to place the measure on the informal calendar the following week.
Committee members offered support and had no questions. No members of the public registered to testify. The committee moved the bill and, hearing no objection, granted a due-pass recommendation.
Next steps are verification of the petition signatures and any standard traffic-calming technical review by city staff before installation of traffic-calming devices if the petition meets program criteria.
