Council adopted an ordinance authorizing the purchase of perpetual easements on two parcels around Gardenia Drive from the Laura C. Osborne Trust to complete the Oxford Area Trails multimodal transportation Project Phase 5.
Public Works staff explained the ordinance on second reading and recommended adoption so the city can complete right‑of‑way acquisitions needed to progress to bidding and construction. Council approved the ordinance by roll call vote; the roll call shows unanimous support.
When asked about timing, staff said preconstruction activities (surveys and parcel descriptions) are complete and that the city expects to begin construction in late summer, subject to final scheduling and lead times for long‑lead items such as fabricated steel bridges and required tree‑removal work (including Indiana bat habitat considerations). Staff said a pre‑construction meeting is scheduled and council will be updated on the construction schedule when available.
The ordinance authorizes staff to purchase perpetual easements from the Laura C. Osborne Trust for the trail alignment and moves the project forward toward construction.
