GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Police and Fire Commission met in special session June 30 and moved into a closed session to interview firefighter candidates under state statute, interviewing six people and adding their scores to the department’s eligibility list.
A meeting facilitator stated, “We have 1 agenda item and that is a closed session item,” and read the legal basis aloud, citing Wis. Stat. §19.85(1)(c) and (f) as authority to convene the closed session. The commission then voted to enter the closed session.
During the closed session the commission completed the agenda item. According to the meeting record, “We interviewed 6 firefighter candidates, and we’ll take those scores and add those to the list.” Commissioners confirmed that report in an open motion immediately after returning to open session.
Commissioner Cobb and Commissioner Goldha were recorded as present at roll call; Commissioners Lauchs and Dorf were noted as attending via Zoom. Commissioner Woloff joined late. Motions to approve the meeting agenda, to convene in closed session, to confirm the report after interviews and to adjourn were made and seconded during the meeting; all motions were approved by voice vote with no opposition or abstentions recorded.
The commission did not announce any hiring decisions at the meeting. The record notes additional candidate interviews are scheduled for next week.
No public comments or other substantive agenda items were taken during the special meeting.
