Council moves forward on renewal of North Bend public-safety levy; certifies need to county

The Village of North Bend council approved a resolution of necessity Monday to begin the process of renewing a 2-mill public-safety levy that expires Dec. 31, 2026.
Finance committee chair Dave presented slides and said the current levy generates about $82,000 per year. "A renewal would result in no increase to the taxpayers," he said, and asked the clerk to seek a certified amount from the Hamilton County Auditor so council can move forward.
Dave summarized the village's contract with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office: a three-year agreement covering 2025–27 with fees that increase annually and a requirement that the village pay a pro rata share (5.757%) of any new vehicle purchase the sheriff acquires to service the district. He said the sheriff provided estimates for 2028–30 that show larger increases, but those are projections and would be addressed later.
Council approved a motion to pass the resolution of necessity and to have the clerk seek certification from the county auditor on the amount the levy could generate. The resolution was approved as an emergency so certification can be sought in the required timeframe.
