Superintendent praises graduates, announces first student ex officio member and retirement of longtime facilities director

Superintendent (name not specified) opened the regular meeting portion by congratulating the district’s graduates and reporting what he described as an 84% graduation rate for the class of 2025. He said about 452 students received diplomas and estimated about 4,500 people attended the ceremony on the football field.

The superintendent announced Harjot Kur will serve as the district’s ex officio student board member; Kur is a senior at Niagara Falls High School and holds a leadership post with Kiwanis. The superintendent said Kur will be sworn in at the board’s July 31 meeting and will begin participating in board activities thereafter.

The superintendent also announced the impending retirement of Earl (last name not specified), who has served in multiple district roles including purchasing agent, facilities director and capital projects oversight. The superintendent thanked Earl for his service and said the board would honor him and accept his retirement at the appropriate moment.

Finally, the superintendent requested an executive session after a brief break for a single personnel matter that could lead to an employment or appointment decision; board members approved going into executive session after a short meal break and noted there would be no public vote following that executive session.

The superintendent offered a closing appeal to community safety and wished staff and students a safe summer as the district continues summer programs, building work and credit-recovery offerings.
