City reports progress, unexpected utility work on $1.2 million Miller Street rebuild

Bonita city administrator Brian Prince updated the council on the $1.2 million North Miller Street reconstruction project on July 1, saying heavy rain and previously inadequate roadway construction have caused delays and required additional utility work.
Prince said the contractor milled the existing asphalt and discovered that sections of roadway subgrade were not properly built. As crews undercut the roadway to rebuild the base, the city found service lines that had to be moved; he said Justin’s crew has already relocated about six service lines in the 400 block. Prince added that weather has created access and scheduling challenges but said the project is progressing and will improve connectivity to nearby schools.
Council members did not vote on project changes during the meeting. Prince said the project was approved previously and the city has budgeted $1.2 million for the work; he did not present a change order or additional funding request at the July 1 meeting.
