The Bonita City Council on July 1 approved an invoice for $13,700 from Casco Industries to purchase two 20-inch positive-pressure-ventilation (PPV) fans and DEWALT batteries for the fire department.
Fire Chief Huxtable told the council the fans replace older equipment — one of the existing fans runs on gas — and will improve ventilation at fire scenes while reducing fumes, noise and manpower needed to deploy the equipment. The new fans run on DEWALT batteries; the department’s scene lighting and extrication tools also use DEWALT batteries, Chief Huxtable said, which simplifies logistics and battery compatibility.
Staff said the purchase will be paid from the fire department’s prior-year budget savings after internal budget adjustments; chief’s remarks indicated the expenditures were covered by prior-year allocations if the council approved the invoice. The council approved the purchase by voice vote without opposition.
