The Hauppauge Union Free School District Board of Education discussed two policies at its July 1, 2025 meeting and directed one back to the policy committee for further work.
Board members agreed to return Policy 5695 to the policy committee for a proposed second reading at the next meeting; the superintendent said the policy is required by law and that the district needs to decide whether a formal regulation is necessary. "It's required by law," Dr. Murphy said, noting further decisions remained to be made and that communication with families is a priority.
Regarding Policy 8113, which the superintendent and staff characterized as connected to shade and heat-condition protocols when temperatures rise, administrators said classroom cooling is in place districtwide and that the district’s bond program has addressed larger spaces and three gymnasiums. Dr. Murphy told the board, "We'll be communicating that to all families." The transcript records that staff said implementation details and any necessary regulations were still to be determined.
No vote to adopt new regulations was recorded for either policy; the only recorded action on policy during this portion of the meeting was the board’s direction to return Policy 5695 to the policy committee for a second reading at the next meeting. The superintendent said a committee had met to discuss the law-driven requirements and that further communication and possible regulation are "TBD."
