Marathon County's Environmental Resources Committee on July 1 voted to forward two separate Town of Wausau items to the County Board: a proposed comprehensive-plan amendment adding an overlay map identifying areas the town deems compatible with wind and solar development, and a 1.98-acre rezone from Commercial Light Manufacturing to Agricultural District.
CPZ staff explained the town amendment is a nonbinding guidance tool in the town comprehensive plan describing where the town considers wind and solar development compatible; it is not an enforceable zoning regulation and does not conflict with state statute, staff said. Supervisor Kroll asked about the delay in the town forwarding the plan; staff replied the town approved it last October but paperwork sometimes takes time to reach the county.
Supervisor Drebeck moved to forward the comprehensive-plan amendment to the County Board and Supervisor Kroll moved to forward the 1.98-acre rezone; both motions were seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff noted the Town held its own public hearings and provided required materials; the committee will send the items to County Board for final action.
