Norman swears in Mayor Steven Tyler Holman and four new council members

The City of Norman on July 1, 2025, administered oaths of office to Steven Tyler Holman as mayor and to four newly seated council members during a swearing‑in ceremony at City Council Chambers.

The ceremony, presided over by Judge Blaylock, installed Holman as mayor and sworn council members David Gattensbury (Ward 1), Bridal Montoya (Ward 3), Michael Nash (Ward 5) and Kimberly Blodgett (Ward 7). Outgoing Mayor Larry Bridal was recognized by the council with a resolution of appreciation.

Judge Blaylock administered the oaths, asking each official to “raise your right hand and repeat after me” before declaring each duly sworn. Mayor Steven Tyler Holman took the oath and later presided over the meeting. The council then moved to routine organizational business.

The outgoing mayor, Larry Bridal, addressed the chamber after the formal actions. “Thank you very much, Council. I appreciate it very much. It was odd standing on the other side and not being the one that get got to give up things,” Bridal said, and he thanked staff and community members for their support during his service.

Newly sworn council members offered brief remarks to constituents. Council member David Gattensbury told attendees, “I plan on trying to build business in Ward 1... I will answer your calls, will return your emails, and we'll invite you to come talk so that we can learn each other better.” Other returning and new council members congratulated colleagues and thanked Bridal for his service.

The ceremony concluded with the council adopting organizational motions and resolutions later in the meeting and an invitation for the public to continue civic engagement. The council adjourned following final remarks and directed interested members of the public to a public reception at The Standard.
