Department of Corrections staff said the medical contract extension helped manage costs because pretrial release practices reduced medical needs and that the department expects rising demand for mental‑health services over time. The food services vendor — in place with prior vendors for several years — was described by council and staff as performing well.
Both extensions were presented with the county manager’s recommendation and were approved by the council in recorded votes; staff said sufficient funds were budgeted for FY26 to cover the extensions.
