Hancock County approves purchase of three sheriff's vehicles funded by congressional award; reserve deputy appointed

Commissioners confirmed the county received competitive bids from three dealers and that the required documentation was included in the packet. The approved process is: commission approval and order placement now, with grant drawdown and payment in the following fiscal year per the sheriff’s office’s grant reporting procedures. A sheriff’s office representative told commissioners the new vehicles, including three canine vehicles, are much needed.
Separately, the commission approved the appointment of Chase Kinihidi Kinhete (transcript spelling) to the Hancock County Sheriff's Reserves effective June 15, 2025. The sheriff’s office speaker thanked the commission for approving the vehicles and noted the addition of canine vehicles will support operations.
The commission did not authorize any additional county-funded spending beyond the use of the awarded congressional funds and did not discuss vehicle specifications beyond dealer pricing and procurement documentation.
