The request came from Mike Pate, who identified himself as representing the county probation office. "We have all but run out of our mileage money," Pate told the council, and said the office had budgeted about $5,000 annually for mileage. Pate said he initially asked for $4,500 and later referenced asking for an additional $4,300 "up to $9,000" to avoid a shortfall next year.
