Vigo County outlines summer paving plan; Hasselberger bridge work set to finish Dec. 1

Vigo County Engineer Larry Robbins told the Vigo County commissioners the county is preparing for the summer paving season and expects contractors to begin work in early August.
"We're gearing up for paving season," Robbins said, adding that the contractor Milestone is on the schedule for sometime the first or second week of August but that rain and other work are pushing the timeline. Robbins said the county will also start milling and chip-seal work after July 4 and will prioritize Community Crossings projects on the paving list.
The county plans to include Oregon Church Road — described in the meeting as running "from 41 all the way to 159" — among its larger paving projects. Robbins said all preparatory work on that route is complete and the county is waiting for Milestone to begin paving. He said the county will concentrate some chip-seal and milling work around the SR 246 closures that INDOT has in place for bridge work.
Robbins described a separate bridge project at Hasselberger: "they're working on demo right now. I think they got half of the span out," he said, and reported crews are removing the center pier, will drive piles and assemble the new bridge. When asked about a completion date, Robbins said, "Completion day right now is, December 1."
Commissioners also noted they planned to meet with INDOT (Indiana Department of Transportation) later in the morning for further discussion of road and bridge needs. No formal votes or contract approvals for the paving or bridge work were recorded during the meeting; Robbins's remarks were presented as a status update and schedule estimate.
County officials cautioned that the schedule could shift because of weather and contractor availability. Robbins said the extended rainy season this year has already pushed back planned work.
The discussion is expected to inform upcoming contract scheduling and coordination with INDOT; commissioners did not take formal action on any specific contract during this session.
