Commissioners approve temporary flaggers and a temporary bridge worker for chip-seal season

The Wichita County Commissioners Court on July 1 authorized the employment of temporary flaggers for the county’s chip-seal program and approved a temporary worker for Bridge Precinct 1 through October 2025.

For the chip-seal project, commissioners directed that the temporary flagger be paid from the road-and-bridge precinct for which the flagging work occurs; timekeeping will track days worked in each precinct so costs are billed accordingly. The motion to authorize the flagger was made by Commissioner Fincannon and seconded by Commissioner Beecham; the vote was 5-0.

Separately, the court approved employing a temporary worker for Bridge Precinct 1 through October 2025 to support ongoing seasonal workload. That motion was made by Commissioner Beecham and seconded by Commissioner Fincannon; the vote was 5-0.

County staff said the hires are temporary positions to support chip sealing and bridge-season needs and that the county will fund the positions from the appropriate precinct budgets with lines determined by the county auditor. Commissioners discussed training and timekeeping to ensure precise billing to the correct precinct for days worked.
