The Wichita County Commissioners Court discussed two quotes on July 1 for the Courthouse Concrete Construction Project to replace roughly 190 feet of sidewalk on Lamar Street, construct about 90 feet of retaining wall for erosion control, and add Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at the courthouse corner.
Staff presented two quotes: one from a contractor identified as Jesus Valdez for $24,180 and another from Wilson Contracting for $33,002.85. Commissioners said the work would replace discontinuous blocks with a continuous sidewalk, build a retaining wall similar to earlier courthouse work, and address erosion that washes across the walkway. The work would be paid from the permanent improvement fund with lines determined by the county auditor.
Commissioners discussed enlarging the project to include an additional stretch of sidewalk that would be more efficient to demolish and rebuild while contractors are mobilized. Rather than approve a contract at the meeting, the court voted to table the item so staff can ask both bidders for updated quotes covering the larger scope and return to the court on July 8 with those prices.
No contract was awarded on July 1. Commissioners said they will consider updated bids and whether a larger phase would be cost-effective; if the total cost exceeds competitive bidding thresholds, staff said they will follow procurement rules.
