Board approves personnel actions, names new East Islip Middle School principal; accepts donation for sensory-room equipment

The board approved multiple certified and noncertified personnel actions, including resignations, terminations, leaves of absence, position abolitions, appointments and salary changes, as recommended by the superintendent and in accordance with applicable education and civil service law provisions.
During the meeting the board introduced Tara Scully as the newly appointed principal of East Islip Middle School; Scully took an oath of office at the meeting. The board also recognized newly hired staff including Crystal Pelicano (special education teacher) and Samantha Wasserman (districtwide school psychologist), and welcomed other new faculty members whose names were read.
As part of consent and budget items, the board approved appropriation changes for the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 school years and accepted a $3,063.15 donation from the high school school store. The donation will be used to purchase a stationary bicycle for students in the core program and for scheduled physical-activity sessions in the sensory room. The revenue code to be increased was listed as 2705 and appropriate budget codes will be adjusted.
Motions to approve these personnel and consent items were made and seconded; approvals carried on voice votes.
