Captain Kevin J. Barton was sworn in as Deputy Chief of the Oak Harbor Police Department during a July 1 council meeting ceremony.
Police leadership described a department restructuring that created a deputy chief position and two new lieutenant positions; City staff said the restructuring followed roughly 18 months of planning and was possible with council and mayor support. Chief Slovak (identified in the meeting) and others noted Barton’s work on a five‑year strategic plan, deployment of professional development software and regional partnerships.
Barton’s wife, Christina, performed the pinning during the swearing in. Barton thanked the community, city leaders and his family and said he looked forward to working with the department and council in the new role.
