East Islip BOE elects new president and vice president, adopts meeting calendar

Steven Ruhland was elected president of the East Islip Union Free School District Board of Education during the board's reorganization meeting; the motion to appoint him was made by Chris Zachary and seconded by Mike Dorgan and carried on a voice vote.
The board then elected Timothy Sasson as vice president; Jessica Champion made the motion to appoint Sasson, which was seconded by Steven Rubin and carried. Both Ruhland and Sasson took the oath of office at the meeting.
The board also approved its business and workshop meeting schedule for the 2025–2026 school year upon the superintendent's recommendation. A motion to adopt the attached schedule was made by Sasson and seconded by Zachary and passed on a voice vote.
The board approved districtwide committee liaison appointments for the 2025–2026 school year and accepted the swearing in of Angel Mai as the ex officio student school board member. The organizational votes and appointments were completed by voice vote with no recorded roll-call tallies discussed at the meeting.
The reorganization actions were taken at the start of the board's meeting and preceded the business agenda and public hearings.
