Monroe Township board extends site approval for Chabad Lubavitch Jewish Center to April 2026

The Monroe Township Planning Board on an oral roll call voted to extend a 2021 site approval for the Chabad Lubavitch Jewish Center so the applicant can complete permitting and begin construction.
The extension was requested by Lawrence Sachs, who represented the Chabad Lubavitch Jewish Center and said the original resolution memorializing approval dated May 20, 2021, was valid for three years and construction had not yet started. "That approval is good for 3 years, and we have not yet commenced construction," Sachs said, adding the project encountered county, engineering and funding delays and that financing has now been secured.
Under the Municipal Land Use Law, Sachs asked for a two-year extension; the board discussed and then approved an extension that ends April 26, 2026. Board counsel noted a resolution to memorialize the board's action had been prepared and the board moved to adopt it the same evening.
A roll-call vote adopting the resolution recorded unanimous affirmative votes from members present. The board minutes will include the adopted resolution and counsel said a written resolution memorializing the action would be provided for the record.
The board did not discuss changes to the approved plans at length during the extension vote; counsel and the applicant indicated site activity should be visible on the property between now and the new expiration date.
