The Tuscaloosa City Council committee authorized staff to negotiate an assignment and amendment to the TCL FBL LLC fixed-based operator agreement and associated hangar/ground lease at the Tuscaloosa National Airport, following notice of a proposed sale of the Bama Dixie FBO to Hawthorne.
City staff told the committee the request was to begin negotiations and “advocate what’s good for the city” and that any final proposal would be returned to the council for review.
Stan Pate, who identified himself as the current owner/operator of Bama Dixie, said he had been involved at the airport for decades and had worked to eliminate deferred maintenance and grow training operations. “I currently own the... Bama Dixie FBO and operate the Bama Dixie,” Pate said. He told the committee he has agreed to sell to Hawthorne “with a few conditions,” including retaining the ability to continue air‑freight operations, provide rental aircraft, and support his flight training program.
Pate described goals to expand freight activity and recruit aviation business to the airport; he said he had about 10 airplanes and expected additional aircraft to come. Staff said the motion to enter negotiations was approved by the committee; any actual assignment or amendment would return to council for final approval.
