Pasadena council unanimously confirms Michael P. Jackson as police chief, swears him in

The Pasadena City Council unanimously approved Mayor nomination of Michael P. Jackson as chief of police and administered the oath of office at the conclusion of the July 1 meeting.

The confirmation came after a councilmember made the nomination and two councilmembers moved and seconded the appointment. Councilmember Jonathan Estrada moved the nomination and Councilmember Heredia seconded it; the council voted in favor and the mayor announced a unanimous decision.

Why it matters: The vote made Michael P. Jackson the city's sworn police chief, putting him in charge of the Pasadena Police Department pending the start of his term and any departmental transition tasks.

After the vote, the council conducted a swearing-in ceremony. Michael P. Jackson took the oath of office, stating on the council floor, "I, Michael P. Jackson, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will faithfully execute the duties of chief of police of the City of Pasadena... and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and the laws of the United States and of this state," concluding with "so help me God." The mayor and council then congratulated Chief Jackson.

There were no recorded amendments or conditions attached to the appointment during the meeting, and council members indicated the swearing in would occur immediately following the session.
