The Romulus Community Schools Board of Education approved creation of an administrative assistant position for the Integrated Technology Department at its May 27 meeting to free technical staff for core IT work.
The approval matters because district staff said rising IT demands — from cybersecurity, state reporting and daily end-user support — require dedicated administrative support to improve response times and documentation compliance.
Human-resources director Kevin Brock presented the recommendation, saying the administrative assistant would take on clerical and logistical tasks currently performed by technical employees, including scheduling, inventory tracking, purchasing coordination and vendor communication. The role would also support user-account maintenance, website updates and management of digital signage. Brock said the position will be funded from the general fund and an exhibit containing the job description was included in the board packet.
The motion to create the position was moved by Trustee Davis, supported by Trustee Rogers, and the board approved the position by roll call (all yes). No additional implementation timetable was specified in the board discussion recorded in the transcript.
