The Covington City Council on July 1 approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to appoint an assistant city attorney to handle litigation matters.
Council discussion noted recent “interesting topics” coming before the city and described the new position as beneficial to the city’s legal work. A council member asked whether funding for the position was included in the current budget; administration replied that the city budgets for legal services in a legal tab in the budget binder and that there is a line item to cover such issues.
After a motion and second, the council approved the resolution by roll call vote. Administration indicated the appointment will be handled within the existing legal budget line items and will be coordinated through the city’s legal and administration offices.
