Board approves concrete replacement and new ADA path at Garish campus

A staff member described multiple problem areas flagged during a site inspection and recommended Royal Cement under an existing five‑year district contract for concrete work. The staff presentation explained the scope includes: replacing building sidewalks and damaged sections of district‑responsible city walks adjacent to district property, adding concrete pads under softball bleachers and dugouts, installing a concrete sidewalk to bleacher areas that currently lack ADA access, and replacing a deteriorated asphalt path from the site into the neighborhood.
Staff cited longevity and base‑condition concerns as reasons to choose concrete over continuing asphalt repairs. The staff estimate put new concrete for baseball and softball at $57,552 and building sidewalk replacement at $58,008.66; staff asked for a contingency of $20,000 and recommended board approval of Royal Cement’s estimate and contingency for a total not to exceed $136,419.
Board members asked whether the city was responsible for sidewalk repairs that abut district property. Staff said the district follows the standard practice of removing and replacing flags where the walk touches district property and that the district has to maintain these walks, including snow removal, because they are contiguous with district grounds.
The board approved the authorization to Royal Cement by voice vote.
