Board approves classroom painting and base installation at Davidson Middle School

The Southgate Community School District Board of Education on June 24 approved summer painting and base installation work in selected classrooms at Davidson Middle School.
Staff recommended awarding the painting contract to R & M Painting LLC and the base demo and installation to Cohen’s Commercial Floor Covering, with a contingency and a total not to exceed $28,537. The scope covers drywall patching and repair, masonry hole filling, painting and removal and replacement of existing base with a new 4‑inch “burnt umber” base in the classrooms noted in bid materials.
Staff said the work will be phased to coincide with other summer projects at Davidson, including roller‑shade installations. A staff member explained the initial work will address 13 classrooms that staff identified as having the greatest immediate need — areas with extensive wall defects from removed posters and general wear. “We want to start here and we're gonna continue with Davidson until all the classrooms will get a fresh coat of paint,” the staff member said.
The board voted to approve the contracts and contingency by voice vote.
Ending: Work is scheduled to occur during the summer and will be coordinated with other contractors on site; staff said it will continue at Davidson until all classrooms receive refreshed finishes.
