District reports 26,770 summer meals served; one‑stop community event planned July 19

Support services staff told the Harris County Board of Education on July 1 that the district’s summer feeding program served 26,770 meals in June and that a community One‑Stop Shop event is scheduled for July 19.
Ms. Baker reported the district served 24,934 seven‑day pickup meal packages and 1,836 on-site meals at school locations for a June total of 26,770 meals; the program is fully subsidized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Baker said the district’s meal service has increased year over year (an almost 8% increase at breakfast and nearly 3% at lunch between the 2024 and 2025 school years), and she urged eligible families to complete meal applications. Baker noted that existing meal statuses (free or reduced) will remain through Sept. 18; after Sept. 18 students without a new application will be moved to paid status.
Baker also promoted the third annual One‑Stop Shop on July 19 from 9–11 a.m. at the Harris County Community Center; 30 vendors had registered at the time of the meeting. The event will provide health information, school supplies and assistance completing meal applications.
Board members thanked the nutrition and support-services teams for summer operations and outreach. No formal action was taken during the report.
