The Caribou City Council on June 30 approved a request from the Central Caribou Chamber of Commerce to allow adult beverages at a one-time, invitation-only annual dinner at the Caribou Wellness Center in March 2026.
Gary, representing the Chamber, said the event would be catered, closed and monitored by the Chamber; he said he would secure a licensed caterer and be present to monitor the building. "It's not open to the public, invitation only," Gary told the council, and the chief of police and city manager had indicated no objection provided monitoring was in place.
A council member moved to allow the sale of adult beverages for this single event; another council member seconded the motion and roll-call votes recorded ayes from Councilors Kelly, Lovewell, Smith, Terrio, Watson and Bagley. The motion carried. Councilors expressed support for hosting the Chamber event in Caribou.
The approval applies only to the single event described by the Chamber and the council noted conditions in discussion — that doors will be locked, a licensed caterer will be used and a Chamber representative will monitor the event. The council did not adopt a permanent policy change to wellness center alcohol rules during the meeting.
