At a special meeting, the Onslow County Board of Education adopted its fiscal 2026 budget resolution, approving appropriations for the local current expense fund, the capital outlay fund and other restricted and proprietary funds.

Mr. Holloman, an Onslow County Schools staff member, told the board that the adoption follows procedures in state law and built on prior steps the board took, including a special-call meeting and a public hearing. “Each year, the board undertakes a series of steps to complete the process of adopting the annual budget resolution,” he said.

The board’s proposed resolution covers the state public school fund, the local current expense fund, the federal grants fund, the capital outlay fund, the child nutrition fund and other special revenue funds. Holloman said the budgets previously approved for the local current expense and capital outlay funds were submitted to the county commissioners in accordance with state statutes.

Holloman also told the board the budget as presented includes ongoing state funding for the replacement of school buses, state funding for school construction and repair projects, and the inclusion of a committed fund balance for disaster recovery.

Board members moved and seconded adoption of the resolution; the motion passed on a voice vote with no roll-call recorded. The board then adjourned its special meeting.

Background: the board held a special-call meeting on April 29 to review local current expense and capital outlay proposals and held a public hearing on May 6 to receive public comment before the May 6 regular meeting, at which the local current expense and capital outlay requests were approved for submission to county commissioners.
