Board members asked staff to place two presentations on the July 23 Taos Municipal Schools board meeting agenda — one on the district’s Flex Friday program and one about the district’s involvement in a social media lawsuit — and requested updates on cybersecurity, cell phone policy and the district’s response to the Martinez/Yazzie action plan.
A board member asked the president to schedule a Flex Friday presentation by Principal De Herrera and Ben Mortensen, who runs the Flex Friday program, and a separate presentation by Brian Colon about a social media lawsuit and its trial schedule. The request specified the July 23 regular meeting at 6 p.m. at the Administration Building.
Trustees also raised cybersecurity and cell phone policy as topics for future meetings. A board member noted cybersecurity could require legal consultation and possibly an executive session because discussing specific security measures can be sensitive; the board suggested having the district’s IT director provide a public update on measures to enhance cybersecurity instead of discussing sensitive details. Trustees additionally asked the superintendent to update the board on the district’s bullying policy and suggested that a policy review could include bullying alongside other policy matters.
Separately, President Flores relayed an email from the Landau Foundation that described a partnership with an entity referred to in the record as "West Air" on Martinez/Yazzie action-plan work; trustees asked that the district assess how it will be included in any follow-up communications or implementation tied to that partnership. One board member said it was "due time" to receive an update on Martinez/Yazzie at an upcoming meeting.
The board invited members to forward additional future-topic suggestions to the superintendent and confirmed the next regular meeting for July 23, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the Administration Building.
