Speakers urged immediate action and clearer city processes. "There are a lot of vacant houses," contractor and neighborhood volunteer Tim Sperry said, adding that owners and developers face regulatory hurdles but that a more efficient vacant-property registry and inspections process could accelerate repairs and reuse.
Multiple residents described difficulties with out-of-town landlords and with basic city services. "I'm tired of out-of-state landlords letting their houses go down…they live in our neighborhood," citizen Alice Ramey said, asking for stronger enforcement and assistance identifying absentee owners.
