The Select Board voted unanimously July 1 to appoint Dr. John Kleshinski as interim director of Health and Human Services following the town administrator’s recommendation.
Melissa (covering for the town administrator in his absence) told the board Kleshinski joined the town in 2021 and has worked on the Community Health Improvement Plan and other public health programs. “He’s extremely talented,” she said, and recommended the interim appointment while the town evaluates permanent recruitment options.
Board members praised the succession plan and the candidate’s familiarity with town public‑health work. Select Board Chair Bernard Green called the appointment a positive step: “We’re losing someone that did a great job, but we’re getting someone who’s gonna do a great job in the future,” he said.
Members asked whether the interim appointment would precede a national or targeted recruitment for a permanent director; staff said the town administrator will outline recruitment plans and timing as the interim role proceeds.
The board voted aye on the appointment; the motion recorded that the appointment is interim and that the town will evaluate whether to launch a subsequent recruitment for a permanent director based on progress in the interim role.
