The Homewood City Finance Committee authorized the city manager on June 30 to sign a one-year contract with Ooma to restore emergency-call services in seven elevators across city facilities.
IT staff explained the elevator emergency-call capability was lost during a prior transition of services and that Ooma's solution provides multi-carrier signaling (so calls can go out via Verizon if AT&T is unavailable) and notification features to alert staff when an elevator emergency button is pressed. Staff said the contract covers installation and service and listed a total of $6,410.60 in the presentation for this one-year engagement.
Committee members moved and seconded the approval; the committee approved the agreement by voice vote (3-0). Staff said the contract will cover elevators at the recreation center, police department, traffic facility and other city locations that rely on elevator emergency-call monitoring.
