Commission says Kent Smith Park pickleball courts and trees will not be removed

Morgan County officials addressed community concern at the July 1 commission meeting about potential changes at Kent Smith Park, saying the county has no intention of removing the pickleball courts or cutting down trees.
Commissioners and staff said the county intends to improve parking and overall park usability as funding and space allow, but not at the expense of the pickleball courts or mature trees funded and installed recently. "We will not be moving them or getting rid of them, and we will not be cutting down the trees," a county staff member said during the discussion.
Staff explained there has been talk about shifting some trees from the center to the perimeter of the park to permit multiple field orientations east–west and north–south, but that was presented as a conceptual option, not a formal decision. Commissioners emphasized that the county spent "hundreds of thousands of dollars" on the pickleball courts a few years ago and that removing those facilities is not being considered.
The county asked the public to spread accurate information and reassured residents that any future changes would be discussed publicly before action.
