The car-show presentation came before a formal county budget adjustment. Kate Becker, county finance staff, told the commission the county originally budgeted $5,600 in estimated revenue for the car show but that actual receipts exceeded the estimate and an unanticipated invoice remained unpaid. "So this is to increase the estimated revenue of the car show so that it can offset the expenses that I need to pay," Becker said.
That context mattered to the commission because the adjustment moves earned revenue from an event into the county accounting so staff can pay bills against that line. Commissioner Newton moved to approve a $3,300 increase in estimated car-show revenue; Commissioner Fackrell seconded. The motion passed on an affirmative voice vote.
During the presentation Toby, Kurt and Earl (car show organizers) said the event drew 240 cars this year, up from 226 the previous year, and that organizers raised about $2,300 for charity this year (compared with roughly $3,300 in a prior year). Organizers noted they still plan to increase capacity — they estimated the site could accommodate up to about 300 cars before outgrowing the space — and discussed ideas such as a pre-event poker run to drive visitors to local businesses.
Commissioners and presenters also discussed safety measures used during the burnout demonstration at the show, barrier placement, and the possibility of shifting event elements next year to improve visibility for fundraising booths. Presenters estimated online interest and on-site attendance in the thousands, with a presenter saying the show had 2,300 Facebook "interested" responses and an attendance estimate of "over 4,000." That estimate was described by the presenter as an approximation rather than a precise count.
The commission recorded the budget adjustment as a formal action so county staff can pay the outstanding invoice from event revenue rather than the general fund.
Organizers thanked volunteers and spouses who assisted with staging, and commissioners commended the event as a community attraction and local economic stimulus because of vendor sales tax.
