The Norwalk City Public Works Committee on July 1 authorized a fifth amendment to the city's agreement with W. Lochner for additional design and coordination services tied to the walk-bridge program, not to exceed $376,974.12. Staff said the amendment covers additional sewer-related design and inspection work and that the state will reimburse the city for 100% of the costs.
Vanessa Valdez, Department of Operations and Public Works staff, told the committee that Lochner serves as the consultant for sewer upgrades tied to walk-bridge work and that, because the municipality is upgrading its own infrastructure, the state reimburses design and construction inspection fees. "The state reviews, then send us a letter ... saying that we're gonna get reimbursed," Valdez said, summarizing the reimbursement process. The amendment bundles several upcoming tasks to reduce the number of small contract changes and to simplify processing for state reimbursement.
The committee voted unanimously to approve the amendment. Staff described this action as administrative: the city increases the consultant contract to cover anticipated additional tasks and then draws reimbursement from the state for design and inspection of sewer work in the walk-bridge program.
