Committee clears private sanitary sewer extension at 2 Mueller Avenue; owner to construct at no city cost

The Norwalk City Public Works Committee on July 1 approved a proposed private sanitary sewer extension at 2 Mueller Avenue after staff confirmed the city's sanitary collection system and wastewater plant can accommodate the additional flow.
Ron Duran, permit engineer with the Department of Public Works, said the owner, Sean Slond, must connect to the city sewer as part of orders from the conservation department because the property currently uses septic. "As part of getting into compliance, they are required to connect their sanitary sewer to the city sanitary sewer," Duran said. The owner will construct the private extension at no additional cost to the city; DPW will inspect the work, require pressure/leak testing and condition acceptance on standards being met.
The project was reviewed by the WPCA board and the Planning and Zoning Commission and included drawings attached to the committee packet. Committee members thanked the property owner for complying and noted the matter came through WPCA. The committee voted unanimously to approve the recommendation and to refer the extension back to the WPCA board for final acceptance.
The approval directs staff to follow the city DPW and WPCA sanitary permit process and the sanitary sewer main extension policy adopted July 7, 2021. No city funds are required for construction; DPW will perform inspection and testing prior to connection.
