The changes matter because the city this week began delivering standardized 65-gallon carts to eligible residences as part of a larger effort to reduce garbage tonnage and improve recycling and organics diversion. "This second bin will cost $300 and will be one time only," said Vanessa Valdez, Department of Operations and Public Works staff, explaining that the fee covers the bin, delivery, administration, a barcode tied to the address and two years' shipping/collection costs. "By 2027 the council has the option to revisit how we're charging for garbage," Valdez said.
