On June 30 the Madison City Council approved a renewal of the city's lobbying agreement with the Swaddox, Vaughn & Bridal firm at $5,000 per month.
Legal staff told the council the firm has served as the city's lobbyist since 2020 and "helped us secure over $6,000,000 in funding for projects like the Madison Boulevard improvements and the community center." The updated agreement adds a 30-day termination clause in favor of either party.
A council member asked about the timing of legislative activity; legal staff noted the state legislature will not reconvene until next year, though prefiled bills and committee meetings can occur in the interim and lobbyists pursue funding and meetings year-round. The legal presentation emphasized that lobbyists often engage legislators in their home districts prior to sessions.
One council member suggested interviewing other vendors in the future; the council nonetheless approved the renewal during the meeting. The motion passed on a roll-call vote as announced by the clerk.
