The Nordonia Hills City School District Board of Education voted to establish a $700 family cap on pay-to-participate fees at its June 30, 2025 meeting.
Board members said the change was recommended by the district FACT (Families and Community Together) committee and had been discussed at prior work sessions; the $700 figure was amended downward from an earlier $840 proposal. Board members said the cap applies to athletics, band and other fee-based activities and is intended to increase participation by reducing financial barriers.
During discussion board members gave examples of existing fees: the speaker said high school athletics fees were $280 and middle school $140, and band fees were tiered with a cited $180 level; they explained how multiple children in a household could quickly exceed current costs. One board member said, "I really believe this is going to impact so many families," and members thanked FACT committee volunteers for their work.
On a roll-call vote the board approved the family cap (roll-call recorded as unanimous). No implementation timeline or specific administrative rules were presented in the public motion; board members said staff would follow through on the operational details and that the change aligned with the district's commitment to reduce family costs if a levy passed earlier this year.
