The Kenilworth Borough Council voted on May 20 to introduce an amended ordinance establishing a protocol for flag displays on municipal property and scheduled a public hearing on the measure for June 18 at 6 p.m.
Council members considered edits proposed by the borough attorney aimed at narrowing the list of authorized flags. The attorney recommended striking a provision that would have allowed "such other flags or objects as may be authorized by resolution of the borough council," and instead limiting displayed flags to the set enumerated in the ordinance and the official borough flag.
"The purpose of this ordinance is to establish a protocol for the display of the flag in the borough code," the attorney said while summarizing the changes. After discussion, a motion to introduce Ordinance 2025‑26 as amended was made and seconded; the roll call vote was unanimous among present members.
Roll call on introduction: Councilman Fenistrella — yes; Councilwoman Giordano — yes; Councilman Morrow — yes; Councilman Piper — yes; Councilman Scurries — yes. Councilman Boyle was excused.
The ordinance will be scheduled for a public hearing and possible adoption at the June 18 council meeting at 6 p.m.
