She described the project’s purpose as improving pedestrian safety, crosswalks and sidewalks — particularly for older residents — and said officials are also considering materials that will be more durable and easier to maintain.
Prunty said traffic‑flow analysis is part of the design work and noted the current backup on North Avenue caused in part by closely spaced traffic signals; project designers are evaluating options to improve traffic movement through downtown. She also mentioned the project may address localized downtown flooding in design choices.
Officials stressed that no plan will be finalized until the town completes additional public sessions, presentations and surveys; they asked residents to base comments on factual information shared by township professionals rather than rumors and said more meetings will be scheduled in the coming months.
